يُروى أنه في قرية صغيرة كان هناك راع يرعى أغنامه كل يوم ويأخذها إلى الجبال الخضراء الجميلة لتأكل العشب.
وفي المساء كان يعود إلى منزله للراحة في أحد الأيام، وبينما كان الراعي مع أغنامه شعر بالملل فخطرت له فكرة
ليمازح أهل القرية. فذهب إليهم وبدأ يصرخ: "ساعدوني، ساعدوني، الذئب قادم ليأكل أغنامي!"
فأسرع أهل القرية لمساعدته، ولكن عندما وصلوا لم يجدوا أي ذئب، وأدركوا أن الراعي كان يمزح معهم. شعروا بالانزعاج من كذبه، لكنه كرر هذه المزحة أكثر من مرة.
وفي أحد الأيام، بينما كان الراعي في الجبل كالمعتاد، ظهر ذئب كبير وهاجم الأغنام وبدأ يأكلها واحدة تلو الأخرى. خاف الراعي وركض إلى القرية يطلب المساعدة، لكنه هذه المرة لم يجد من يستجيب لصراخه، حيث لم يصدقه أهل القرية بعد كذبه المتكرر.
عاد الراعي إلى الجبال ليجد أن الذئب قد أكل جميع أغنامه. وعندما علم أهل القرية بما حدث، أخبروه أن كذبه السابق جعلهم لا يصدقونه عندما كان بحاجة حقيقية للمساعدة. وبهذا فقد الراعي عمله وثقة أهل القرية،
وتعلم درسا قاسيا عن عواقب الكذب، حيث أن من يكذب حتى ولو مزاحا لن يصدقه أحد بعد ذلك.
It is said that in a small village there was a shepherd who used to graze his sheep every day and take them to the beautiful green mountains to eat grass.
In the evening he was returning home to rest one day, and while the shepherd was with his sheep he felt bored and an idea came to him
to joke with the villagers. He went to them and started shouting: "Help me, help me, the wolf is coming to eat my sheep!"
The villagers rushed to help him, but when they arrived they did not find any wolf, and they realized that the shepherd was joking with them. They felt
upset by his lie, but he repeated this joke more than once.
One day, while the shepherd was in the mountain as usual, a big wolf appeared and attacked the sheep and started eating them one by one.
The shepherd got scared and ran to the village asking for help, but this time he did not find anyone who responded to his screams, as the villagers did not believe him after his repeated lies.
The shepherd returned to the mountains to find that the wolf had eaten all his sheep. When the villagers learned what had happened, they told him that his previous lie had made them not believe him when he really needed help. With this, the shepherd lost his job and the trust of the villagers, and he learned a hard lesson about the consequences of lying, as anyone who lies even as a joke will never be believed again.
